27th February 2007 – Tuesday
Here is what I sent to Ellen (Vancouver, BC) since she responded to my mailart call (Spirit Animal). I can’t remember exactly when I mailed it out to her but she should have received it by now..

In reply to Mapps
This is the piece I sent to Mapps (Toledo, OH) who responded to my mailart call (Spirit Animal). I mailed this out to her some time ago… did not want to post it in case she somehow comes across it — what’s the fun of getting snail mail if you see it plastered all over the web beforehand, right? Right. Or should I say “Eh?” ’cause I’m Canadian, eh?

My altered matchbox – wolf
Here is an image of the altered matchbox I created for a swap project…

My son’s art
My 6 year-old son has been following along with my craft projects with his own creations. He made this cute hippo out of foam (all I had to do was help him cut out the shapes); he got his inspiration from the hippo valentine card I made for my friend in Japan. Then he decided to create his own altered matchbox after I was finished doing one for a swap. He’s very artistic and that’s great! I have clusters of his art plastered all over my craft room so this is a new gallery for him. Here are the images:

Mail art I’ve sent…
Hmmm… a question was presented to me regarding my what kind of mail art projects I have. Still not exactly what she meant…?… (this was via message at y!uhskee). But it’s made me realize that I don’t save images of the stuff I send out which is not very bright on my part. There is this piece I sent to Jooyoung (from Dec’06); it was my first one ever mailed to anybody so I took a picture of it -ha ha.
Otherwise, Issi at y!360 (first one view1 view2, second)has posted a couple of mailart envelopes I mailed to her. Envelope art is a personal favorite… luv luv luv to decorate the envelopes that I mail to my friends. Ahh…but yea — I will definitely start scanning in the images for art I send away from now on.
“Hippo” Valentine’s Day
This is a cute little hippo that I made especially for my friend in Japan. She loves anything to do with hippos so I thought she might like it. I certainly enjoyed making it for her… I went shopping the other day for something “hippo”-ish for her and there wasn’t much to be found in the shops. There were lots of rhino stuff… and elephants. Ah, well… I hope she likes it 🙂 Mailing the envelope today.
When Simba was with us
This is a digital bookmark I created a few years ago. I can’t remember the significance of the teardrop shape… but it symbolizes all my creatures at the time: Simba and the cats were Dina, Spencer, Pharaoh, and Luke. Simba died of old age… he left us on the Christmas Eve 2005. Spencer passed away suddenly in November last year … the exact date is vague to me because his death came as a complete shock. I would have to go back through my journal — but I won’t because I’m at a place now where I can remember Spencer without that terrible sense of emptiness.
Running deer at night…
Had to watch for deer crossing on my drive home last night. Sometimes they stand on the side of the road and simply stare, often they will run…and that’s when you gotta watch out because there’s a possibility that they will run across the road. This photo of two deer: They were the type who stared but when I stopped to snap their picture, they ran. I’m somewhat pleased with the result here because the original image was completely black until I played with the contrast and saturation. Unfortunately, could not fix the the grainy appearance and so I decided that it gave a good feel to the photograph anyway 🙂

Well… here I am with another blog. This one will be used for my artsy creations that don’t belong in the mailart category, and the only four-footed critters that will be included here are those I’ve sketched. Hee hee… they will be stick figures.
